The poor elephants there live in a tiny, 70's style enclosure. One always stands with her head in the corner, swinging it back and forth. It is absolutely horrible. Then they bred one of the elephants, but the mother gored the baby to death when it was a few days old. The zoo said she was just "trying to help her get up." Awful, awful. The zoo has many good exhibits, but the way these elephants live is an absolute disgrace. I can’t believe the Memphis Zoo is not on this list. How dare IDA list it as the worlds worst zoo - come on people - what are you bunny huggers doing for the planet anyway. Just because two mature Asian elephants only have a tiny enclosure, with no natural surfaces, barely any shade, get gawked at all day by sticky-fingered passersby’s, have no enrichment, barely enough room to move and feet and skeletal problems from lack of natural movement - how can you say that San Antonio Zoo is bad? Look at the facts people - if they were at a sanctuary they would have acres and acres to roam in, a heated night barn, others of their own kind to associate with , care and kindness and a view, natural surroundings - grass, trees a large waterhole to frolic in. They could roam to their hearts content with out being 'entertainment for people. What is wrong with IDA - how dare they try to make animals lives better. Animals are put on this planet by God to serve humans and anyway what do animals care they are senseless, unfeeling, mechanical biological machines - so there you bunny huggers what about the people in jail?
