Spirulina is a blue -green algae for which scientists believe is the oldest plant on Earth.

Spirulina is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and proteins. Actually, vegetarian body builders take spirulina (and other plants) as a source of protein. It contains almost 70% protein with all the essential amino acids and it is superior to normal plant protein. So it is mostly used by vegans and vegetarians.

When you look at Michael Clarke you cannot notice how big he is. And for anyone who ever went to the gym that means that he had to eat a lot of meat. Right?

Well…wrong! When we think of muscle growth, we think of proteins and when we think of proteins we think of meat.

Meat is a low carb and a high protein food. It is also high in fat. We have the two different types of fat, good fat and bad fat. Guess what, meat has that evil type of fat, not good for our health.

Michael Clarke realized that and went vegetarian. Actually, only when he got sick, he realized that going on a vegetarian diet meant living longer.

Since that, he lost 35 pounds and now feels a lot healthier. Nowadays he gets his proteins from vegetables, fruits and legumes. Beans and peanuts are packed with proteins and have no bad fat, only the good ones which can lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease.

FDA Considers To Approve First HIV-Prevention Drug

According to the advocates, FDA is considering to follow the advice of the panel and approve the Truvada, a drug that HIV-positive people take as an anti-retroviral drug.

FDA has already approved Truvada for HIV-positive people, but recent studies showed that Truvada can prevent HIV infection in healthy people.

According to the studies as high as 73 percent of the testies were protected by this drug while having HIV positive partners.

This would be the first HIV-prevention drug that FDA approved.

In the US a little over a million Americans have HIV.

Dog Finds Abandoned Baby

While a man from Cologne, Germany, was walking his dog, the dog started sniffing something in the bushes. Its owner went to the bushes and found a three days old infant.

Baby boy was laying in the bush, hidden by the leaves.

Whoever put him there, didn’t want anybody to find the helpless child. The infant was wrapped in a towel, wearing only a thin jumpsuit.

The body temperature of the three-day old baby was only 33 degrees.

The baby boy is stabile. Police is searching for parents.

Leaked Video Of Military Trauma Traning

Each year US military and its contractors shoot, stab, mutilate and kill more than 10 000 live animals in crude and cruel trauma training exercises that are nothing like battlefield conditions and don’t help soldiers save lives.

These shoots were taken by the PETA activist during the Coast Guard training course in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Live goats were mutilate and killed during a barbaric course for the members of the US Coast Guard conducted by the military contractor called Tier 1 Group.

Instructors used tree branch trimmers to break and cut of goats legs while the animals were still alive.

Did you know that Japan has a list of one hundred sounds that must be preserved? We didn’t, well, not until know that is.

A few days ago, we read about a forest in Arashiyama district, Japan. This district is near Kyoto and is most famous for its Sagano bamboo forest. It is often considered to be the most scenic destination in all Japan.

Sagano Bamboo Grove has an area of 16 square kilometers with bamboo rising up to 150 feet high. The sound that wind makes as it pases through the bamboo was voted as one of the hundred sounds that must be preserved in Japan.

Interesting Facts

Back in the 19th century when Thomas Edison was looking for a good bamboo as a material of a filament for his early light bulb, the governor of Kyoto recommended two sources for bamboo, Sagano Bamboo forest being one of them. Luckily for us, Edison used the other one.

Actually, bamboo is not a tree, although we called it a tree. Bamboo is a member of the grass family and it can grow up to 100 cm in 24 hours.

Filipinos believe that humanity emerged from the bamboo stem.

Some other tales from China and Vietnam tell stories of impossible marriages that came true with the help of the bamboo.

First electric motorcycle was patented, believe it or not, in 1860s. This was just a patent and it never saw the light of day but it is interesting that this kind of vehicle existed in the 19th century.

In 1911. according to one article published in the Popular Mechanics electric motorcycle was available to the market.

We already wrote about world’s fastest production electric motorcycle Mission Motors. Now it is time to present some other beautiful creations from the industry.

One of these beauties are Empulse and Empulse R, Brammo bikes with breathtaking designs.

Both, Empulse and Empulse R, are packed with a 10.2-kWh lithium battery using nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) chemistry and both sporting a six-speed transmission with a multi-plate, hydraulic activated wet clutch. It’s not quite clear what is the difference between the two, though we imagine the “non-R” to be naked.

Top speed is given as 100 miles per hour plus for the R, while the potential range is laid out using three different scenarios. Driving at a constant 70 mph will take you 56 miles, a city/highway combination should net 77 miles, and pure city driving might keep you in the saddle for up to 121 miles.

Charging from empty can be achieved in eight hours or 3.5 hours if using a J1772, level 2 set-up.

If you need a proof that Australia is not a place for people suffering from arachnophobia or ophidiophobia, this is one of them.

Australian photographer took these amazing pictures of golden orb spider eating a 1.6 feet (half a meter) long live snake.

Snake was bigger than a spider, and it tried to attack the spider.

But after a hour of struggle, it gave up. Spider ate the snake!

Golden orb spider, also known as golden silk weaver, is from the genus Nephila, which lived about 165 million years ago and had a leg span of 6 inches (15 cm). This was actually the largest know fossilized spider.

DIY: Build Your Own Planter Box

As we were doing an article about the joy of growing your own salad on your balcony we thought it would be fun to do an outdoor project – salad planter box. There are different styles and types of planter boxes, they are all really expensive because they are all made of cedar, redwood or teak. Expensive wood will hold up to the weather and the moist coming from within but we didn’t want to spend a lot of money. So we thought of making it out of pine and some garden edging. It will last few years and it only costs 20$ to make.

You will need:
- two 2×4
- two 2×3
- five redwood bender boards (sold in garden departments)
Two 2×4 are for four corner posts.

We will cut them in half and glue them together.

Afterwards, we will cut those glued parts in half and get four corner posts.

Then we will take 2×3 and cut them into 18 and 3/4 inch length.

And make notches in them.

Assemble according to the picture.

Put slats into notches.

Now try to line up the slats with the group.

Notch out corners so that slats can fit.

The rest of the boards cut down to set on the ridge.

And there you have a wonderful flower or a lettuce planter box.

The Joy Of Growing Your Own Salad On Your Balcony

We all know that fresh food just tastes better. And this is not a problem if you live in a house with its own backyard. But, what if we live in an apartment?

Try making a salad planter that you can set near the window! Our recommendation is that your salad planter has different types of seeds, all because of the variety of flavors and harvest time. So, what do you need to grow lettuce on your balcony?

“Cut and grow” method

We recommend that you buy packets of mixed seeds and sow them in the nursery. As seedlings grow, you can cut individual leaves for your salad or sandwich. Your lettuce will continue to grow and produce leaves even after cutting, thus ensuring a constant supply of fresh salad leaves.

Things to consider:
• Check with your landlord is it ok to have a salad planter and try to make sure that your salad planter is securely attached to the building.
• Pots and Bags can also be used as a salad planter.
• Choose a window or a balcony with plenty of sunshine.
• If your nursery is big enough to sow seedlings in two rows you will have a constant supply of fresh salad.

Do have in mind that if you live in a big family, you probably will not have enough salad to go round each day. But having something green growing in your home will definitely put a smile on your face.
