United States Consume 80 Percent World’s Painkillers

They come in all shapes and sizes. Even their color differs. And 80 percent of them are sold in the US. Believe it or not we are talking about painkillers.

Yes, you read right! 80 percent of the world’s analgesics are consumed in the U.S. And that wouldn’t be so alarming if we didn’t knew that only five percent of all humans living on Earth actually live in the US.

So, to cut a long story short, five percent of all of the world population consumes 80 percent of the world’s painkillers. Now ain’t that a scary fact.

Reports, delivered by ASIPP (American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians), say that 64 pills come on each citizen and total of 14 800 deaths per year. That’s more than cocaine and heroin combined.

In the last decade deaths from painkiller overdose were tripled and consumption rose by 600 percent.
