Police Caught A Criminal Selling Jackets From Cats Fur

Nadine was buying a jacket at the market in Leipzig, Germany, when a man offered her fur jacket made out of cats. She was shocked. He even said that for one jacket he needs at least 18 cats. According to him, cats came from a local vet, already dead.

When media heard about this, Roman M. changed his story. He was now telling people that those jackets were actually made from sheep and rabbit fur.

Leipzig Market Authority called the police and pressed charges against this individual.

As of 2008. European Union forbids selling products made from cats and dogs.

Valentine’s Day can be as much fun for pets as it is for humans if dangerous foods, flora and other items are kept out of paws’ reach. Each year our poison control experts see a rise in cases around February 14, many involving chocolate and lilies, a flower that’s potentially fatal to cats. So please heed our experts’ advice—don’t leave the goodies lying around on Lover’s Day.

Pet-Safe Bouquets
Make your flowers pet-safe. Many people don’t know that all species of lily are potentially fatal to cats. If you’re sending flowers to someone with a cat, make sure to nix the lilies this year! And if you receive flowers, make sure to take out any flowers or flora that could be dangerous to your own pet.

Forbidden Chocolate
Seasoned pet lovers know the potentially life-threatening dangers of chocolate, including baker’s, semi sweet, milk and dark. In darker chocolates, methylxanthines—caffeine-like stimulants that affect gastrointestinal, neurologic and cardiac function—can cause vomiting/diarrhea, hyperactivity, seizures and an abnormally elevated heart rate. The high-fat content in lighter chocolates can potentially lead to a life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas. Go ahead and indulge, but don’t leave chocolate out for chowhounds to find.

Careful with Cocktails
Spilled wine, half a glass of champagne, some leftover liquor are nothing to cry over until a curious pet laps them up. Because animals are smaller than humans, a little bit of alcohol can do a lot of harm, causing vomiting, diarrhea, lack of coordination, central nervous system depression, tremors, difficulty breathing, metabolic disturbances and even coma. Potentially fatal respiratory failure can also occur if a large enough amount is ingested.

Life Is Sweet
Other sweet treats might not be so sweet for your furry friends either. Don’t let pets near candy or gum that is sweetened with xylitol – it can cause loss of coordination and even seizures in pets! In general, keep all kinds of candy and edible gifts for human-eating only!

Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Don’t let pets near roses or other thorny stemmed flowers. Biting, stepping on or swallowing their sharp, woody spines can cause serious infection if a puncture occurs. De-thorn your roses far away from pets.

Playing with Fire
It’s nice to set your evening a-glow with candlelight, but put out the fire when you leave the room. Pawing kittens and nosy pooches can burn themselves or cause a fire by knocking over unattended candles.

Wrap it Up
Wrapping a present for your loved one? Make sure you gather up all that tape, ribbon, bows, wrapping paper, cellophane, balloons, and anything else! If swallowed these “fun-to-chew” items can cause serious damage in your pet’s throat or digestive tracts.

Cat Returns After 5 Years

Five years after Scrub failed to return home one hot, muggy, post-Katrina night, he’s back with battle scars, a wild side that’s new and his old habit of sleeping underneath a blanket on somebody’s bed.

Jennifer Noble of Biloxi, Mississippi, thought the Humane Society of South Mississippi had the wrong cat as she listened last week to a message left on her husband’s office answering machine.

The message said they had a pet brought in with her information on his microchip. She had given away two kittens — failed attempts to replace Scrub — and figured the message was about one of those.

“‘Do you have a gray and white cat?’” Noble said a humane society employee asked when she returned the call. Scrub is a Russian blue and tabby, mostly gray with white markings. The other cats had been gray.

“You have my cat! Oh my gosh!” she remembers saying. “That cat has been missing for five years!”

She said the employee replied, “‘Oh my gosh. Well, Merry Christmas!’”

“This is the power of microchipping,” humane society Director Tara High said. “There is no other way that cat would have found its family. This is a very dramatic story with a wonderful ending.”

Cats Understand Fluid Dynamics And Gravity

US researchers unveiled the secret of how cats lap water or milk with such elegance, a phenomenon that happens so fast it cannot be followed by human eyes. A cat lapping milk strikes a delicate balance between gravity and inertia, the research finds.

Unlike dogs, which use their tongues to scoop water into their mouths, a cat uses the tip of its tongue to pull water upward, closing its jaws before gravity pulls the column of liquid back toward earth.

The method requires cats to lap at just the right speed to balance the inertial force that keeps the water moving upward with the gravitational force pulling the water back down.

One night, Roman Stocker sat at home and watched his cat, Cutta Cutta, lap milk from a bowl.

The MIT engineering professor, who studies the locomotion of microorganisms, began to wonder: How, exactly, did the milk travel from Cutta Cutta’s bowl to his mouth?

“What we found is that the cat uses fluid dynamics and physics in a way to absolutely optimize tongue lapping and water collection,” said Jeffrey Aristoff, now at Princeton University but who was one of the four researchers who began the study out of curiosity at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

“Nobody had ever studied it before, so nobody knew how the water went from the bowl into the cat’s mouth,” he said. Not surprisingly, they found that cats lap at precisely the rate that would get them the most water for the effort expended.

An average house cat, the team found, can make four of these mini-streams per second.

How To Remove A Tick

There are more than 200 kinds of ticks in the United States and over 850 different species in the world. They are at their most active in spring and summer.

Ticks are small rounded arachnids that cling to one spot and do not move. They have inserted their head under the skin and are engorging themselves on the blood.

Diseases carried by ticks means that you should have yourself or your pets checked after you find ticks. On the one hand, ticks are a little easier to deal with since they remain outdoors, and do not infest houses the way fleas do; on the other hand, they carry more dangerous diseases and are harder to find.

It is never pleasant to have a tick on you, and they should be removed as soon as possible using one of the following methods.

Check your/pets body from head to toe/tail for ticks ‘ small black, brown, reddish or tan disklike arachnids (having eight legs), from the size of a pinhead to almost the size of a thumbtack. Pay special attention to the backs of knees, groin area,torso and neck.

Put on latex gloves to avoid direct contact with the tick and contaminated skin, as diseases can be transmitted from tick to pet to human.

Method 1:

Hold a pair of tweezers in one hand and grasp the tick with the tweezers close to the surface of the skin. Also avoid grabbing the body of the tick with your fingers and trying to pull it out. This method may cause you to leave some parts of the tick under the skin.

Gently but firmly pull the tick straight out, working for several seconds if necessary until it loosens and comes free. Occasionally, parts of the tick’s mouth become separated from the rest of the tick; if they do, pull them out separately.

Dispose of the tick by throwing it into a fire or by squishing it using a tissue and then flushing it down the toilet. Don’t smash it with your foot or your bare hands.

Clean the bite site thoroughly with soap and water, and thoroughly wash your hands.

Method 2:

Do not try another method of tick removal first and then try this one. Wounded ticks or those exposed to most typical chemicals or soaps will not likely be able to release their bite. Removing a dead tick, with jaws frozen shut, may require a comb or tweezers and force that could cause a little of the patients flesh to have to be pulled out with the tick and may cause minute bleeding.

Get a pint or quart of Mystery Oil (it comes in a red can) at auto parts stores and other places where oil supplies or sold. Apply the oil directly to the ticks and surrounding areas of skin. Give the ticks 5 to 10 seconds to get drunk from skin penetration. Move the ticks back and forth slowly and gently. Perhaps this tires their jaw muscles. When you sense, they’ve released their bite, pull them out slowly. (If the head of a tick and enough of its body is left in the victim, the tick may grow back to full size or cause itching for days).

Large and stubborn ticks may require additional Mystery Oil to get them to relax their bite. It may take a full minute to get a stubborn tick out.

After you’ve discovered one or more ticks in a pet’s fur, you may need to pour some Mystery Oil into your hand before you approach an animal. (Some pets, especially cats, have a tendency to run when they see you coming at them with a container). Rub the Mystery Oil into their fur with your fingers in the area you discovered ticks.

When digging a relaxed tick out of a long haired furry animal use a comb. A fine toothed comb may be necessary for small ticks.

Check for ticks in the inner ear of animals. Bleeding ears is probably an indication a pet has been hopelessly trying to scratch away ticks.

Mystery oil will not aid in the removal of a tick that is already dead. However, it appears to work very well to prevent infection in these cases.

Get your anti flea and tick medications for animals from a veterinarian, a pet or feed store, the kind you apply to the back of a pet’ s neck. They’re usually good for about 3 or 4 months. Read the directions carefully. (3 month medications are generally for pets at least 3 to 6 months old). Once or twice a year is likely enough applications in most climates. In winter months they are probably unnecessary.

Method 3:

Apply 1 drop of Lavender and 1 drop of Tea Tree oil on the tick area before removing the tick. This will disinfect the inflamed area.

After that apply method 1.

Method 4:

A drop of Rose geranium oil applied directly on a tick attached to a pet’s skin is very effective. The tick will detach itself shortly thereafter.

Prevention 1:

For a 10ml bottle, use 10 drops of Lavender essential oil and 10 drops of Tea Tree essential oil and the rest of the bottle fill with the organic vegetable oil. Shake before use and place 5 drops at the back of the pets neck and 3 drops above its tail.

Prevention 2:

Rose geranium oil is a watery substance with a slight, light-green color. It has a sweet, rosy smell with a hint of mint overtones.

To combat ticks apply a few drops of this repellent to the pet’s collar.

Prevention 3:

The second best essential oil for repelling ticks is American Pennyroyal (also called tickweed).

Skip the Pennyroyal if there is anyone pregnant (including pets) in the home, as it can induce miscarriage. And as always, use essential oils with caution as they can burn the skin and harm eyes. Don’t use these essential oils around cats.

Boyfriend Beat His Girlfriend With A Cat

A 49-year-old Hoboken man was arrested Tuesday after he beat his girlfriend with a cat and punched her in the back and back of her head, according to police reports.

Around noon, Hoboken police were dispatched to the 300 block of Marshall Dr., and a 20-year-old Jersey City woman was crying and told police that her boyfriend punched her a few times and hit her with a “feline cat,” reports said. She said she had pain to her lower back and the back of her head, reports said.

Police then arrested her boyfriend Lasalle Davis with a simple assault charge for domestic violence, reports said.

The woman told police that they had been dating for two years and he became mad when she did not call him the night before, reports said. When she came to Hoboken to visit her sister, he showed up, yelled at her and grabbed her right arm, reports said. She told him she no longer wanted to date him, and that’s when he picked up the cat and hit her, reports said.

She declined to speak to a member of the Domestic Violence Team but did want to file a restraining order against Davis in Hudson County Superior Court, reports said.

Police did not know the whereabouts or the condition of the cat. The victim did not immediately respond to inquiries about the cat.
